Commerce Georgia is approximately 8.3 square miles with a population of 6,495 people. The average price to purchase a home in Commerce is just under $100,000, with the average price to rent at $753 per month. Commerce was originally known as “Harmony Grove,” but changed its name to “Commerce” in 1904. The city was known for its cotton market and eventually, also became known for its textiles. Commerce is also the setting for the novel “Cold Sassy Tree”, written by Olive Ann Burn.
