MICHAEL CARR TO PARTICIPATE IN JUDGING ATHENS HOME & GARDEN SHOW’S FIRST ANNUAL WHITE ROOM CHALLENGE
Each year the AAHBA (Athens Area Home Builders Association) hosts the annual Athens Home & Garden Show. This year, they are adding a brand new event called the White Room Challenge. The White Room Challenge allows University of Georgia and Athens Technical College design program students to compete in decorating two empty, white rooms in order to win the coveted title of White Room Challenge Champion.
Michael Carr, President/CEO of Michael Carr & Associates Real Estate will serve among those on the judging panel. “It’s such an honor to be a part of this event. Many times our agents rely on a great design for a speedy sale, so any chance we get to participate in making a space feel more inviting and welcoming, we’re all about that”, said Michael.
The White Room Challenge starts with two empty rooms. Design students from both schools will shop for furnishings and accessories at the Athens Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which takes in new and used home furnishings and sells them at up to 90% off retail cost, offering the community an active venue for reusing/recycling building materials and home furnishings that would otherwise be thrown away. Students have the entire day Saturday during the event to complete the design challenge. On Sunday, a judge’s panel will critique their efforts based on five criteria: placement (form and function), balance (color and weight), best use of materials and accessories, most inviting atmosphere and best use of lighting.

The Athens Home & Garden Show takes place February 22nd and 23rd at the Athens Classic Center. The White Room Challenge judging will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday, and the winning team will be awarded at 2:30pm.
